- Aleksei Courtanvoux -- A half-Ussuran Montaigne nobleman who is a constant disappointment to his father. (Played by Sean)
- Julien La Croix -- A Montaigne street-rat from birth, sly, intelligent and nonchalant. (Played by Jeremy)
- Sebastien Cristophe Gaulle du Motte -- One of L'Empereur's Musketeers. (Played by Reid)
- Marie-Celeste Minuit -- A former slave from the Midnight Archipelago and now a Knight of the Rose and Cross. (Played by Claire)
- Philip du Paix -- The heroes' initial employer.
- Carlotta -- The notorious Castillian spy "El Chacal".

- Paix -- Montaigne's diplomatic city, where the story begins.
- Isla Tormentos -- A small island off San Teodoro that makes an ugly hole in the Montaigne blockade.
